Munchkin and I have quite a few baby bonsai now. So far we’ve sprouted and moved them outside into smaller pots (easy to relocate this winter). We have grown the following: Japanese Black Pine, Buddha Tree, Giant Sequoia, Coton Easter, Trident Maple, Chinese Elm, Colorado Blue Spruce and Black Spruce.
We have grown our first sprouts! The first to come up were our Colorado Blue Spruce. We also appear to have a Japanese Black Pine sprouting! Grace is still showing interest in things.
Grace and I planted some of what we had already, although I think we should have planted much more based on what I’m reading about the rates others have had on successful sprouting. We also got a nice selection of new seeds we will look into planting. Currently I’ve got the temperatures in the sprouter where they need to be but I’m worried about the humidity in one of them being way too high. Time will tell!
We attempted our first seed planting fully accepting we don’t have a clue what we are doing and just gonna see if anything even sprouts. Made up some labels for them. It’s rather pleasant experience, it causes a perspective shift for me. Slows me down. I’ve decided to repurpose the blog as a way to document our adventure into all things Bonsai. For me this started simply because I’ve had an interest in owning and caring for one since I was a kid. Grace and I are going to try our hand at growing some Bonsai from seed. We have no clue what we are doing but we have Youtube and Amazon to help us. Our first purchase was the “Super Sprouter”! We also got a bunch of seeds for Christmas that we will try germinating. I guess time will tell at this point, stay tuned.
